Inspired by Éliane Radigue’s L’Île Re-Sonante, Rough Sea is a 3’45’’ hazy audiovisual journey to a “resonant”, yet distant island.

Through waves of consciousness, one gets lost in an overwhelming tension, captivated by different voices which start narrating no less than a reflection of what is inside the traveller. They speak of loneliness, uncertainty, fear of the unknown, identity.

Throughout the sequence, the compass is calibrated in vain. However, this audiovisual flow also alternates a sense of peace, which gently caresses the traveller in this auditory vortex, giving in to this illusory tranquility. It is through those fragments that one can take a breather and paradoxically start appreciating this inner turmoil, finding comfort amidst chaos.

As also mentioned above, this vision came naturally through listening to the 55’2’’ track of Eliane Radigue, L’Ile Re-Sonante. Although being such a long piece, it was so captivating that I zoned out and did not even realise it took almost an hour. It spoke to me on such a deep level that I impulsively envisioned my work.

Simply put, it is about being off track and finding a sort of peace in an overwhelming and rough time. But a pretty unstable tranquility, as it can easily turn into ineptitude.
