HEALING SOUNDS
CAN WE CREATE A HIGH FREQUENCY SOUND WHICH CALMS OUR MIND?
FROM NOISE TO CALMNESS
This was one of the first times we worked with sounds. We thought the classes were very interesting but also very informative. To experiment with sound, we did a soundwalk in our house because we are in quarantine. Fortunately, we are roommates and we could record sounds together. We started with obvious sounds and continued to search for more calming sounds. Because we live in a loud area, we experience a lot of noise and recorded that.

During this elective we wanted to learn more about frequencies and how sounds can affect people. Our inspiration came from meditation and artists we listen to like Jhéne Aiko and Oshun. They make music with healing sounds which can affect your wellbeing. We wanted to experiment with making a sound that reduces stress and gives you an increased amount of energy.

To work with audio, we downloaded the app Garageband. We were listening to music and thought maybe we can change music, we normally listen to, into a calming sound. We tried with multiple songs and finally recorded a 528 hz frequency sound with the song WAP slowed down. We think it is a funny way to create a calm version of our favorite songs. The frequency we used was beneficial against stress and supports your self-esteem. To us WAP is a song that pushes our self-esteem so combining that with this frequency is a magic combination.
