WHAT DO YOU FEEL WHEN YOU LOOK AT THIS PICTURE?
WHAT DO YOU FEEL NOW?
THE SOUND OF EXPOSURE
A picture is worth a thousand words.
But what if you translate those words to sounds?

I have been guided by the discoveries that have come my way within this elective. At first I had no main question when I started this experiment. I let myself by taken by the unknown. Or the unsound, maybe. The thoughts in my head that I couldn’t hear… yet.

I started with this whole process by accidentally stumbling on the phenomenon named “feedback”, while testing my sisters phone. I really loved how the echoed sound became a new sound itself, and wanted to experiment further with that. So I made a few recordings with phones while playing and making sound and creating depth by moving the phones.
After this little experiment, I started collecting/recording sounds around me which I could play to composite a piece through feedback and researched the keywords which sounded interesting to me a bit further. Through is, I actually came across many new things that interested me. I let myself fall into the rabbit hole and just enjoy everything I came across. Then I used all my findings and the recordings I made, and put it together to composite the first piece.

Like I said earlier, one thing that made me choose this elective is that sound can trigger emotions and memories, something I explore a lot within my work. I wondered if I could “trigger” a certain emotion within a photo by putting the sound I created under it and see if it changed anything compared to just looking at the photo itself. But the sound still felt unrelated to the picture. I really wanted to make a sound that came from the picture itself, but also something to summarized this whole journey. So I took all my discoveries, including the sound that was generated from this text & the photographs, and made my final composition from that.

They are thousands words put into a sound, or noise maybe, because there are so many words that we can’t hear them clearly. It doesn’t need to be sound. The noise will breath the energy of this week through us.
